Pick One

(car bomb, truck bomb, road-side bomb) goes off in Iraq killing (10, 15, 19) (soldiers, civilians, families)

(hurricane/tsunami/earthquake) in (the gulf coast/the Philippines/Japan/Peru) kills (dozens/hundreds/thousands)

(Plane crash/bridge collapse/mine cave-in) in (Brazil/Minnesota/Utah) kills...

I am going to turn my radio to the country station and go back to bed.

Sometimes, when I've had a hard day, I just listen to the news. Perks me right up! ;-)

See, the news has the opposite effect on me. I listen to it because I like to stay informed but sometimes it makes me crazy-depressed. It seems like the whole world is falling apart sometimes...

When my DH and I started dating, he got deployed to Iraq for a year and a half. I stopped reading papers and listening to the news then, and found I was a much happier person. Less informed, perhaps, but I had more psychic energy to devote to my immediate surroundings.

My suggestion, if you MUST stay informed, is to find an RSS feed for a news source that you trust, and stick with that, forsaking all others. Otherwise, I strongly recommend a news vacation. It's amazing how much better you'll feel.
